Good morning! And welcome to Straight Talk about God. I’m Jack. It’s time we talked about some of the traditional views of the Christian walk. A lot of folks are taught or told that they have to keep the Sabbath. It’s one of the original Ten Commandments. And it says, more than once that God’s laws are forever. What a dilemma for the thinking believer. What a dilemma for Martin Luther. It’s all those laws that drove him to faithing. He found that no matter how hard he tried he couldn’t do enough to feel right with God. Then he discovered the real message of Galatians and the reformation happened.
For a true Believer, there are no laws, only faithing. That means that for faithers, everything is OK. We’ll get into the Law, but first I have to remind you that,

DISC: The views you hear will be mine and are not meant….
UW: The following hour of Redwood….

Frankly, I don’t see how there can be any controversy over keeping certain parts of the Mosaic Law. As one might expect, the spectrum of argument has all re are kinds of ideas. Torah keeping Christians. They want us to do all the law. Some folks don’t ask so much. They only insist that we worship on a certain day. In my experience, those same folks will also tell you that you must keep the feast days. You know, Passover, etc. They will probably not address directly your question of whether or not this is necessary for your salvation. Instead they will point to all the many verses that tell us to keep the law “forever.” They’ll go into the NT to the book of Revelation and show us that Jesus, himself, says that we are to keep his commands.

The thing is, that I haven’t heard anything from Paul about this. The Bible is a Whole book. The Old AND New Testaments. Neither can stand alone. One depends on the other. Now, Paul spent three years being taught personally by the risen Christ. That’s why he can now interpret the OT properly. Christ showed him the fulfillment of the OT in himself. Paul knew the Law and the OT better than any of the other Apostles. He was highly educated in Judaism. He was just following the prevailing interpretation of scripture.

Now where do you suppose that prevailing view came from, seeing that it completely obscured the message of the Messiah? Paul didn’t understand Isaiah’s messianic prophecies well enough to connect them to Jesus. He learned from Christ that acting in trust of some word of God resulted in God implanting a bit of His Spirit in the faither. He was told to go around to all the places where the old House of Israel groups had migrated and tell them that Jesus had come and that now we were to prepare for the kingdom that God was going to set up here on earth. And that’s what he did. He preached the Kingdom, using Jesus’ resurrection as proof of what he said.

Paul quotes the OT more than all the other New Testament people combined, including Jesus. See, Jesus did the act, and Paul explained it. That was his job. Paul is the most important writer in the NT. Without him we’d be very unclear about faithing; eyes closed, feeling our way.

At the other end of the spectrum are those who take Paul at his word and say that none of those rules are there for our salvation. It says that we worship God with our Spirit. Not our hands, our spirit. Our Spirit’s have to be in on it when we faithe. Faithing surpasses ego to some extent; to the extent of the unknown involved in our actions. It goes beyond ego into the unknown. Ego only wants to deal with the known. Even to its own hurt. Isn’t that a trip? Our ego would rather take a big hit of adversity that’s known than to step out even a little into the unknown. Faithing is a spiritual act.

We have to take control of your salvation (“work” w/fear & trembling) instead of letting outside forces dictate our action. God supplied a mediator to the OT people, until Christ’s death and resurrection. The door to God was locked to virtually all the Israelites. The people had to go through the Priesthood and Temple. These were all types of what Christ would do when he came. All parts of the rituals and furniture of the Temple pointed to God’s grace and Christ.

All the Feast days, the appointed-by-God times, pointed to the life and death and resurrection of Jesus. Maybe you’ve heard me explain this before. There are seven feasts, and feast is translated from a word that means set times. In other words, it’s certain days of the year the God has chosen to do stuff. These were prophetic announcements that could be overlaid on Christ. Briefly, There’s Passover, when the lamb was killed. The Crucifixion. Unleavened bread started the very next day and went for a week. Jesus went into the tomb at the start of Unleavened bread, the day of the crucifixion at sundown, the beginning of the next day. On the next feast, called First Fruits, Jesus came out of the tomb. That would have been Saturday at sundown, which was the beginning of the “first day of the week,” Sunday. The next Feast is Pentecost, which is characterized by the descending of the Holy Spirit, Jesus’ spirit, which he taught could not come until he had gone.

A small controversy has arisen over the last three Feasts, Trumpets, Atonement and Tabernacles. Time is too short for me to go into both sides. The side I believe is that these are prophetic and haven’t yet happened. But the evidence is that the second coming will happen on Trumpets. The Atonement is the Great Tribulation, and, as most all researchers believe, Tabernacles symbolizes the Millennial rule of Christ. The Feasts are all typical of Christ. They all point to Christ.

The names of the first ten patriarchs of the OT tell the story of Jesus, his ministry, death and the results of it all with “Noah” meaning Rest. It’s right there in the names.

RECAP: A human being, ground of mankind is appointed, put in place, as a substitute that compensates for mortal man/mankind. A fixed dwelling place for God's praise and out raying, God's servant, who descended, went down, obediently dedicating himself to be the shoot and branch that was pierced, brought (strength and) quiet rest; which allowed - honor, passion and blessing. It’s all about Jesus.

Even the way God told them to camp in the 40 years wandering around the wilderness typified Christ’s crucifixion. When you build a chart using the Bible’s description of the camp, you wind up with a picture of a cross. This works out because of the total population of the three tribes that lined up in the four sides of the Center, where the priest and Tabernacle were located. Moses didn’t decide which three tribes would locate together. It’s all about Jesus.

The list is endless. Paul tells us that the rock that gave them water was Christ. Jesus says the he was the ‘bread from heaven”, the manna. The first Passover in Egypt was brought to light as Jesus told us at the last supper that the blood, the wine, was his blood that was going to be shed. And that the lamb, the bread represented his body.

Christ was the goal, the objective, the desired end to connect to God, for people seeking God through any previous method.

All those previous Israelite methods were human works that didn’t have to depend on God. I’m sure that there were those Pharisees that made a big show of their offerings and tithes, while hiding the fact that they were actually giving only a fraction of what they made. Jesus mentioned something about stealing land from widows, defrauding their own parents. It’s the same as the Rockefellers. You think they pay what they really owe? What about the hundreds of billions of dollars they stash away in their 200? Foundations; who then pass it out to contractors to do some work for the Rockefellers. The only guy paying taxes is the guy on the roof with a nail gun.

Again, the “works” of rituals and sacrifices can be humanly accomplished without God’s help. Now, wait. I don’t mean that nobody back then was acting in faith, trusting God when they performed those acts. I know about the widow and her two mites. “Abraham believed God and it was counted to him as Righteousness.”

It’s always been about faithing. It didn’t just start with Abraham. It didn’t start with Noah. It was a five year act of faithing building the ark. Humanity was created into the faithing environment. Adam was the first faither. True, most his faithing was VERY simple to him. He talked to God every day. It was easy to trust something God told him. Accept that Fruit. Just as God started talking about Jesus with the creation of Adam, He started using faithing to connect with Him.

The Israelites didn’t connect with God by sacrificing. They connected with God through the faithing act of giving value to God on the promise that He would take care of them. It was their Heart not their Hand that saved them.

Don’t you think God had it figured out that human nature could corrupt His plan for contacting Him? Sure He did. That’s why everything back then pointed to Christ. God was giving us plenty of time to get the message. He was going to eliminate all the loopholes where egos could squeeze though and infect the process. With Jesus, He took away all the specifics.

Do you realize that no one on earth has ever been able to perform all the specifics that the Israelites had in front of them? Human accomplishment of ALL the law is an impossibility. It always has been. And more than once the Bible teaches that if one is to use the Law for justification, then one has to do ALL the Law; not just part, but all. The law was given by God as a guide to faithing, as a way to act in trust of Him. It wasn’t the keeping of the law that justified people back then. It was their faithing.

But God had to open up the way to Him on a Universal basis. That meant that ANY acts, rituals, observances, that were used to gain favor with God were futility, as Solomon would say. He instituted faithing. Faithing is not an act, it’s an idea. Faithing universally covers all actions. If it moves, it can be a faith act. That’s why all the words for faith and belief in the OT and the New are verbs. Faithing moves. So it’s a movement principle that can be overlaid on any action.

Faithing is NOT specific. It fills the moment. Whatever FOOTS, is a chance to faithe. Whatever falls out of the sky will require a decision of your part. Out of all the options that come to mind about perusing this FOOTS, one will be God-oriented, The Right way to deal with the FOOTS. This Right way will undoubtedly have some aspect of the unknown about it. Some little “what if…” That’s a key that we can recognize. It indicates a place to faithe. When something is out of our control, it’s a chance to give control of that part to God and act as though the “what if” will work out somehow.

We are the ones in charge of our salvation. It’s always been the individual’s responsibility for his/her salvation. It’s our decision to faithe or not. It was the OT people’s decision to sacrifice or not. Tithe or not. Keep the Feasts or not.

Rom 10:4 has always been in the middle of this controversy. It says, “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.” Well, I’m sorry to say that this verse is misunderstood by both sides of the argument. Those who don’t accept the Law will use it to prove that Jesus took the Law away, “nailed it to his cross”, as Paul says in a different place. They are wrong. In spite of Paul’s “schoolmaster” explanation of the Law, they’ll hold that we don’t have to pay any attention to the Law. They are interpreting the Law as a means to salvation. It’s not. The other side will bring in all the verses that I mentioned earlier about the law being a forever thing. If it’s a forever thing, then it must affect our salvation. They are wrong. It doesn’t.

Christ didn’t’ end the Law. He was the end, goal, aim, result of the Law. The goal to the Law was Christ. Doesn’t Paul say exactly that. The Law was a schoolmaster to bring us to Christ. Christ is the end of Adam.

Christ contains within himself all that the Law demands for the justification of such as embrace him. We get in on Jesus’ coat tails. We can’t do the law but we can hang on to One who did do all the Law. Sure we can’t know all his decisions. We can’t go back and prove he always chose God instead of himself. That’s one reason why he had to die.

If we were hanging out and I turned toward you and held up my hand and then made fire come out of my palm, you’d be well impressed. Then, if I were to tell you that I had knowledge of something very important, you’d be more apt to believe what I said than if I hadn’t made fire come out of my hand. The only way Jesus could have been raised from the dead, as he said he would, is if he was directly connected to God, the way he said he was. All the stuff about Christ, in the OT or the New is founded on the resurrection. If you’ve heard any of my resurrection shows, you’ll remember that Jesus said a lot of stuff that no human being could have the authority to say. If you said some that stuff, they’d put you away.

Law of Christ.jpg - 259491 Bytes

Christ narrowed the whole of God-life down to two “laws”. Love God, love your neighbor. Notice, NO specifics. NO individual Rules for life, as are contained in the Law. He did this on purpose to keep us from making up specific acts that could obtain righteousness. That’s where we get the term Self-Righteous.

When “love thy neighbor” is more deeply considered, one finds that the principle will result in affecting ALL our actions, down to the very smallest; even some that do NOT touch another person. Keeping the five cents extra given in change at the market is NOT loving your neighbor, even though it could be argued that the market is not a person.

Loving your neighbor means considering God’s way of dealing with any circumstance, then doing that, instead of ANY other possible ways.

Paul had a lot to say about the Law. Why? Not just because he talked to Jews, who were living by the Law. God isn’t a God of the Jews only. God, through Paul, was telling the whole world, present and future that there was no way that they could do anything on their own that would count with God for their salvation.

Here’s the Romans 10:4 verse I mentioned earlier. He talks about two different kinds of righteousness, Law and faith. There’s more than one kind of Righteousness. We seldom, if ever, realize that. There’s more than one way to get into heaven, in other words.
Rom 10:1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.
Rom 10:2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
Rom 10:3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. [[that’s the righteousness of faithing]]
Rom 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
Rom 10:5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. [[He means that if anyone can do the Law he’ll be righteous. The problem is that we don’t remember that no one can do all the Law, so we go about doing a lot of Good stuff thinking that it counts. It doesn’t. Even the great legalist, James confirms that a person has to do all the Law. He just conveniently leaves out the fact that it’s impossible.}}
Rom 10:6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)
Rom 10:7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)
Rom 10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Rom 14:20 For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure;[[pure means “clean”]] but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.
Paul is talking here about eating meat offered to idols, but included ALL things, not just that meat.

1Co 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient:[[not to my advantage]] all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

1Co 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient:[[not to my advantage, again]] all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. [[build up, confirm]]

Tit 1:15 Unto the pure[[faithers, resting in God]] all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. [[non-believers will always have some kind of rules that YOU must follow in order to get to God.]]

Col 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us,[[agai;nst our getting into heaven]] which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Col 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
Col 2:18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, [[[Look,, all lthe rules are the invention of Ego, a puffed up fleshly mind.]]

And this Hebrews passage is the one that specifies faithing as keeping the Sabbath. It talks about rest. It uses the word over and over, but one time it doesn’t mean a place of no work. Paul is telling us that there is a resting place where we no longer have to work on our own. Then he tells us HOW we can get to that place.

Heb 4:1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
Heb 4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. [[they didn’t faithe]]
Heb 4:3 For we which have believed [[have faithed]] do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
Heb 4:4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
Heb 4:5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
Heb 4:6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
Heb 4:7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
Heb 4:8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
Heb 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
Heb 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
Heb 4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief

Eight out of the nine times the words “rest” appears it is being translated from the Greek word that means repose down. Just the idea that we give the English word rest. He starts out right in verse two telling us that we have to act in faith, act in belief, to enter God’s rest. But after Paul tells us how we are to enter that resting place, by acting in faith, he uses a different word for rest and this time it’s not a place but an action. He uses sabbatismos, which I’m sure you can see is the Sabbath word. In other words, Paul says that faithing is the same as keeping the Sabbath. Faithing is how we get that repose in God.

You know, you can’t just take one doctrine, no matter how it seems to hold together and make it your life style without checking it for veracity and checking any opposing views. Other wise we are nothing better than a parrot. Meaningless words for the sake of Self.

We don’t have to keep the Sabbath. We don’t have to keep the Feast days. We don’t have to do ANY specific thing to get to God. We must do ALL things as faithing, “as unto the Lord” as Paul says in other places.
Find an opposing position and evaluate/compare the two.

Be suspicious of any promoted doctrine. If someone is pushing something, it’s because they think you need it. Hey! Nobody know what you need but God. And he’s told you what to do about your need. Faithe.

WRAP:
1-I trust that this information will clear up some confusion about the Believer’s walk. You know, everyone you meet has an ego. That means that everyone you meet will be able to tell you how to get saved. I think the military has the right idea. Don’t ask, don’t tell.
2-This subject and many more are open for talk at Straight Talk about God. We’re at 88 Briceland road in Redway. The number over there is 707 923 ALLY (2559). Or on the web at stag.ws. Big archive up there, too, with many transcriptions of past programs.
3-Thanks for listening today. I trust you’ll be there when I’m back on Dec 6th.
4-This faithing stuff really works. You’ll need quite a number of hours of study to give you the confidence to act in faith. Can’t risk on something you don’t believe is true. But that study will result in you knowing that
5-God is real, and keeps His word.

This Is Jack, Bye.
